In 1961 it was the half centinary of the school... the Jubilee. In celebration of that event the school obtained new facilities. One of those facilities was an extension to the school hall, providing a modern stage and lighting, a green room, a cloakroom and place for storing costumes etc. This film features the dedication of a new stage and green room at Wolverhampton Girls High School on 20th November 1963. It was the culmination of a project begun in the Golden Jubilee year of 1961 and cost £7000. The camera goes behind the scenes as pupils apply make-up and prepare for a performance of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. We then see the official hand-over of the new stage by the chair of governors, Alderman Mrs Braycock. Also on the stage are The Mayor of Wolverhampton Mr. H. Preece and the school's headmistress, Miss Scargill.
The film is taken from the MACE Archive and was published on Vimeo. |
